Addressing alcohol and drug-related issues: Reducing harm and supporting positive change.

ASCERT have been an amazing organisation to work for to date. My journey with the charity started in 2020 and I was initially employed as an Administrator, carrying out front of house reception work.

Throughout my role at reception, I was able to get to know staff members who now have become what I deem a compassionate family of colleagues and trustworthy friends throughout ASCERT.I was grateful to be offered and availed of all the associated inhouse training within ASCERT.

Through undertaking extensive inhouse training alongside my academic qualifications achieved through Queen’s University Belfast, an opportunity of applying for a Daisy Key Worker role arose within ASCERT. I applied for the role and was successful and very grateful for the position. Over 3 years within my key worker role, I have additionally been provided training through our Work Force Development Team to include: Certified Counsellor Training; Motivational Interviewing Techniques; and have availed of a variety of other training courses in-house to equip me for my role. I love working for the Daisy programme in ASCERT and I love helping support and assist young adults (aged 11 to 25 years old) and their families through use of a holistic interventional compassionate approach.

I am grateful for the ongoing development provided by ASCERT. ASCERT are flexible to work for, approachable, transparent, and very caring about their staff. At ASCERT the variety of skills, approaches and people that work within are admirable but most importantly compassionate in all their endeavours towards our service users. Progressive in nature, we breed hope within the organisation through a plethora of evolving innovative holistic and therapeutic techniques. One of my most recent objectives is to become a mindfulness teacher and developing a music therapy approach to which I am currently pursuing with the help of ASCERT. Overall, ASCERT are an exciting and rewarding organisation that I am truly thankful for the transformations they have offered me.
