Clonidine decreases the body's release of adrenaline and other hormones that increase blood pressure, heart rate, and anxiety.  It works through the brain to relieve pain.  It has a stabilizing effect in children with attention deficit disorder.  Clonidine may produce side effects that are still considered common yet occur in every form of administration. These include feeling lethargic, dry throat or experiencing changes in the way you taste. Another common side effect is nervousness.

Clonidine is typically available as tablets (Catapres, Dixarit), as a transdermal patch (Catapres-TTS), or as an injectable form to be given epidurally, directly to the central nervous system.

HEALTH RISKS (long term) which includes withdrawal & tolerance:

However, tolerance can develop for the drug and can lead to withdrawl symptoms when taken off the drug. It is usually necessary to continue taking the drug for some time after the condition for which it was prescribed has been cured.

Clonidine is only available by prescription.
