Putting Prevention into Practice: developing & delivering effective prevention programmes

5 Day Training Course

Course content

  •             How young people learn – theories & learning styles

  •             Engaging young learners

  •             Managing group dynamics & creating effective learning environments

  •             What prevention actually is – stages of prevention and appropriate ways of working with
                different ages and stages

  •             the key components are when designing, developing and rolling out a prevention programme
                with young people

  •             the different outcomes that prevention programmes may have in terms of delaying onset of
                usage; stopping or restricting usage and harm reduction approaches and be able to select both
                the most effective and appropriate approach and methodology

  •             developing activities, tools and approaches in working with young people around
                prevention    

  •             confidentiality and dealing with disclosure    

  •             signposting to other services    

  •             effective ways of evaluating prevention programmes

  • Who is this course for?

    Anyone who is either currently involved in prevention based programmes with young people. This programme will look at what best practice in prevention is and how to develop, deliver and evaluate programmes. This programme is practical in nature and will be most beneficial to those actively engaged in design and/or programme delivery. Participants are asked to come with ‘real life’ examples of projects to work on. * NB: due to the highly participative nature of the course the maximum number of participants on a course is 12.

    This training is FREE

    to people working or living in the Belfast and South Eastern Health & Social Care Trust areas

    Accreditation?

    Accreditation is Optional. This unit can be taken as a stand alone OCN NI accredited module @ Level 3. There is NO requirement to do the accreditation if joining this course.
