Course content
Basic drug and alcohol awareness: - what drugs look like, categories, effects, signs and
symptoms, legal status etc
What prevention actually is – stages of prevention and appropriate ways of working with
different ages and stages
different prevention campaigns used in public health and how effective they have been
the key components are when designing, developing and rolling out a prevention programme
with young people
outcomes that prevention programmes may have in terms of delaying onset of usage; stopping
or restricting usage and harm reduction approaches
selecting the most effective and appropriate approach and methodology
effective ways of evaluating prevention programmes
Who is this course for?
This 2-day programmes is for anyone who is either engaged in developing, seeking funding for, delivering or evaluating prevention based programmes and wants to increase there understanding of how to make their programme more effective, relate their practice to sound evidence based approaches and achieve greater impact in their work.

to people working or living in the Belfast and South Eastern
Health & Social Care Trust areas
Accreditation?
Accreditation is Optional. This unit can be taken as a stand alone OCN NI accredited module @ Level 3. There is NO requirement to do the accreditation if joining this course.
