(An Introduction to Hidden Harm)
1/2 Day Training Workshop
Reasion for delivery:
The Hidden Harm Action Plan (October 2009): Responds to the needs of children born to and living with parental substance misusers in northern ireland and calls for two actions that contribute to reducing the harm to children:
Raising awareness of Hidden Harm and the damage it can do
Training for the workforce appropriate to the contribution they can make to address
the issue.
The aim of this half day of training is:
To increase the awareness of the harm living with substance misuse has on families,
children and young people and the needs of those family members to reduce that harm.
Course objectives & learning outcomes
To define “Hidden Harm”?
Present the current understanding of the scale of the problem
To increase the participants’ understanding of addiction
To increase participants understanding of the impact of addiction on the child
To explore the potential long term harm to children through the Adverse Childhood
Experiences (ACE)
To increase participants’ understanding of what helps children and messages children
and families need to hear
To introduce concept of resilience
To increase knowledge of local supports
To explore the actions identifies in the Hidden Harm Action Plan
Who is this course for?
This awareness training complements the more skills-based training, ‘Taking the Lid Off’, which is a 2 day training course to increase the capacity of workers to identifying and provide support for adults and young people living with addiction and problematic substance misuse in the family.
This training is FREE
to people working or living in the Belfast and South Eastern Health & Social Care Trust areas
