12 week Training Course

This is a training course to develop the skills of participants to become competent and effective drug and alcohol trainers

Course content

DRUG KNOWLEDGE:

  •         Chemical composition of drugs

  •         Specific action of individual and categories of drugs on the body (at the anatomical, Physiological and neurological level)

  •         Long and short term affects of prolonged drug use & related side effects

  •         Biochemical interaction of different categories of drugs

  •         Drugs and the law – including all changes to current legislation and the implications of this

  • LEARNING THEORY:

  •         Adult learning pathways

  •         How we learn (neurologically)

  •         Why we learn and blocks to learning

  •         Motivation models (Maslow, Hertzberg; Career Drivers etc) Kolb’s

  •         Experiential Learning Cycle; Johari’s Window; Honey Mumford’s

  •         learning Styles

  • TRAINING METHODOLOGY:

  •         Training and Learning Needs Analyses – why and how (tools and processes)

  •         Design of Training – setting aims and SMART objectives; considering groups (size/ability etc); planning resources, materials and environment

  •         Delivery – How to work with different group dynamics and achieve desired outcomes; delivery styles; basic NLP techniques

  •         Evaluation – feedback versus evaluation/impact analysis; how to undertake quantitative and qualitative evaluations; evaluation tools

  • Who is this course for?

    Any participants who would like to become a Drugs and Alcohol Trainer.

    You need to have successfully completed Level 2 CDAT, or have professional knowledge and experience to this level, to access this course. The course is free of charge but participants must commit to carry out 36 hours of voluntary training delivery for ASCERT. If you do not wish to commit to the voluntary training delivery the course will cost £650

    Accreditation?

    12 credits at OCN Level 3. This is comparable to NVQ3, A Level, AS Level and AVCE
